Red Dress Campaign 2016

The Prince George branch of the United Nations Associations in Canada was honored to take part in a national campaign, the REDress Project. The REDress Project “focuses around the issue of missing or murdered Aboriginal women across Canada. It is an installation art project based on an aesthetic response to this critical national issue.” The Prince George event involved members of the community holding red dresses on the highway to raise awareness of missing and murdered women. UNAC Prince George Information Session [UPDATED]

The UN Association is a historic non-profit organization that aims to educate and engage Canadians in the work of the UN and international issues that affect us all. Our local branch is seeking practical ways to promote equality, dignity, and justice right here in Prince George. This event will involve a power point presentation to inform the community about our activities, and opportunities for dialogue and feedback about future partnerships and events. Light refreshments will be provided.

UPDATE

The Prince George branch of the United Nations Association in Canada held an information session on Thursday, September 22 at Books and Company ArtSpace. It was an excellent event with many engaged members of the community attending the event and subsequent workshops provided afterwards.

May 19, UNAC Prince George AGM

On May 19 the Prince George branch of the United Nations Association in Canada held it’s third annual Annual General Meeting at the Prince George Public Library. Presentations highlighting the branch’s accomplishments for 2015/2016 were shown, and the 2016/2017 Executive was voted in. Your 2016/2017 UNAC-PG executive is:

President = Michelle Metzger

Vice President =Tashi Sherpa

Past President = Kyle Cameron

Treasurer = Don Ireland

Secretary = Danielle Bourassa

Directors: Zeyi (Sherry) Tong, Nicholas Atuheire, Giulliana Tamblyn, Adam Beeksma, David Morgan, Dave Tamblyn, Balbina Olkiewicz

2 awards were also handed out this year for exceptional service to the local organization. The recipients were Giulliana Tamblyn and Kathy MacDonald (not present at AGM) for their hard work and dedication to creating and running the Sport-in-a-Box program in the city of Prince George.

On April 2, 2016 UNAC Prince George held it’s 6th Sport-in-a-Box session on “MDG-2, Universal Primary Education”. Special guest speaker UNAC Director Tashi Yang Chung Sherpa was present to talk to the students about the education system in Nepal.

Sport-in-a-Box Official Day and Guest Speaker

The United Nations Association in Canada is pleased to announce the official launch of the Sport-in-a-Box program in Prince George! After an excellent trial period involving our organization we are now rolling out the program with help from our sponsors the Pacific Sports Program and the Prince George School District. To celebrate this launch an information session was held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Prince George featuring guest speaker Sarah Kambites. A big thanks to Sarah Kambites, Program Director for the United Nations Association in Canada (UNA Canada) who came from Ottawa to launch the Sport-in-a-Box Programme, as well as thanks to our Sponsors the Nechako Rotary Club and the Prince George Community Foundation, our partner the Latino-Canadian Association of Northern BC and all our volunteers, parents and youth for participating in such an amazing program. We hope to continue partnering with other local organizations to run this program.

On our third Sport-in-a-Box program day, students from all around Prince George learned about maternal health and child mortality through health games that drew the connection between physical activity and healthy lifestyles. It was a very successful date with a lot of excited participants!
