International Day for United Nations Peacekeepers

The International Day for United Nations Peacekeepers was established to:
-Honour the memory of the UN peacekeepers who have lost their lives in the cause of peace;
-Pay tribute to all the men and women who have served and continue to serve in UN peacekeeping operations for their high level of professionalism, dedication and courage.
This day is celebrated by the United Nations, Member States and Non-Government Organizations including the United Nations Association in Canada on May 29th, and events are held to honor fallen peacekeepers.

The Prince George branch of UNAC celebrates the International Day for United Nations Peacekeepers by raising the flag of the United Nations at Prince George City Hall. Organizations that also participate in this event include the Prince George Legion, the PGRCC/PGYCC Honor Guard, and the Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations in Peacekeeping. The public and media are welcome to attend the event.

I would like to thank everyone that attended this year’s event. This marked UNAC-Prince George’s first ceremony for the International Day for United Nations Peacekeepers, and it was great to see the community and our community partners come together to help honor Peacekeepers both past and present.
